SETS is a South African National Accreditation System (SANAS) accredited inspection body which conducts Measurement and Verification (M&V) activities on implemented energy efficiency savings initiatives. SETS therefore independently verifies the actual energy savings claimed by a project, hence ensuring accurate and credible results. Businesses have the opportunity of exercising the 12L incentive, hence benefiting from a tax rebate resulting from their measured and verified energy efficiency savings. The process involves conducting a baseline audit, set up an energy monitoring metering system, data analysis and validation using various verification methods.
SETS conducts various levels of energy auditing, including Energy Performance Certification (EPC) to assist the commercial, industrial and private sectors to reduce their energy consumption and carbon emissions

With Eskom’s tariffs rising year after year, knowing exactly how much energy you’re saving becomes crucial. M&V shows the kWh reduction achieved through energy efficiency projects—helping you measure their financial impact against rising energy costs.
Example: A verified 15% reduction in energy use can significantly reduce a business’s electricity bill, even as unit prices increase.

M&V provides the financial evidence needed to support investment in energy efficiency, solar PV, lighting upgrades, or HVAC improvements. When savings are verified, it becomes easier to:

M&V helps track and analyze when and how electricity is used, which allows companies to shift load away from expensive peak periods. This can lower:
Insight into demand profiles helps align energy use with cheaper time bands, reducing exposure to Eskom’s complex pricing structures.

If you can prove how much you're saving through energy efficiency, it strengthens the ROI case for solar PV, battery storage, or voltage optimization—which helps reduce dependency on grid power altogether.

By verifying energy performance, M&V provides a predictable, trackable pathway for cost reduction—even when Eskom tariffs are unpredictable. It becomes a tool for energy cost forecasting and long-term budgeting.

Many government and utility programs require verified savings to qualify for rebates, tax incentives, or carbon credits. M&V provides the documentation needed to claim these benefits. In some industries and green building certifications (e.g., Green Star), M&V is an ideal exercise for demonstrating environmental impact reduction.
