The SAPVIA PV GreenCard Assessment is a critical component of South Africa’s commitment to safe, high-quality, and compliant solar PV installations. As part of the PV GreenCard Programme, led by the South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (SAPVIA), it ensures installations meet industry standards.
The PV GreenCard is a quality assurance and certification initiative for solar PV installations in South Africa.
It provides:
PV GreenCard Installer Assessment
The assessment evaluates solar PV installers through theoretical and practical components, verifying their ability to:
A structured evaluation designed to ensure solar PV installers meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance in South Africa.
Through a combination of theoretical and practical exams, along with strict adherence to regulatory standards, the assessment verifies installers’ expertise in delivering reliable solar PV systems.

Based on SANS standards, solar basics, system components, and grid connection requirements.
Includes:
1. Safety regulations
2. Wiring and bonding practices
3. Voltage, current, and insulation resistance testing
4. Visual inspection checklists
5. Labelling and documentation

Demonstrate physical installation of a solar PV system.
Perform:
1. Visual inspection (mechanical and electrical)
2. Mechanical installation of PV modules
3. Wiring of strings and inverter
4. Testing (continuity, insulation resistance, earth resistance, open-circuit voltage)
5. Commissioning and documentation

Must complete PV GreenCard or related solar photovoltaic training.
Have knowledge of:
1. SANS 10142-1-2: Requirements for low-voltage embedded generation
2. SANS 10142-1: Wiring of premises
3. NRS 097-2-1: Utility interface requirements
4. Testing (continuity, insulation resistance, earth resistance, open-circuit voltage)
5. Commissioning and documentation
